Golden Cod Historic House Plaque
This wooden sign is an updated version of the many historic house markers frequently seen throughout old town Marblehead. Ready to hang on the exterior of your seaside home or use as a design accent inside!
History of the Golden Cod: Once, great fleets of vessels sailed from ports such as Marblehead, Gloucester and Boston to the Eastern most reaches of North America - the Grand Banks of Newfoundland – in search of cod. Massive catches of cod supported nearly 400 schooners in each of these ports, a multitude of shore-side businesses and a boat building industry that made the shipyards on the North Shore among the busiest and best known in the world. Displaying the golden cod on the facade of one’s home is an ode to Massachusetts and Marblehead's historical connection with the fishing industry. The golden cod is symbolic of what made the Massachusetts Bay Colony thrive and prosper.
This plaque is solid clear pine, primed and painted in designer friendly off white. Topped with hand formed copper roof and hand carved golden cod. Approximate measurements:
